Securing Customer Data: The Tipalti and Dig Security Success Story

Tipalti is a leading global payables solution that automates partner payments and accounts payable workflows for high-growth companies throughout the entire financial operations cycle. Despite having implemented cloud security posture management (CSPM) across its AWS and Azure cloud environments over the years, Tipalti required a solution that would protect its sensitive customer data.

Tipalti turned to Dig Security for our unique cloud-native data security platform that combines data security posture management (DSPM), cloud data loss prevention (DLP), and real-time data detection and response (DDR).

"It's challenging to build a data protection program without a deep understanding of the data we own, how it's moving within the organization, and how it's consumed,” said Tomer Kremer, CISO of Tipalti. “That's why it was clear to me that we needed a DSPM solution for better visibility and mapping of our cloud data. Otherwise, we could miss something that would eventually damage us and our clients."

Tipalti's cloud environment, which contains a considerable amount of customer data, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII), underwent a fast onboarding process that complied with various regulatory requirements such as GDPR in Europe and CCPA and NYDFS regulations in the US. Once onboarded, they gained immediate visibility into their data and where it was all located – a process that would take a full-time employee months only took 2 days with Dig. Right away, Dig’s solution prioritizes data risks according to their significance and sends notifications to the DevOps team to address the risks and alerts Tipalti's data protection officer (DPO) when data is found in the wrong place, allowing threats to be responded to in real time.

“The solution drastically cuts our mean time to detect (MTTD), and as a result, our mean time to respond (MTTR),” Kremer says. “By knowing what data we have and where it’s exposed, as well as receiving accurate alerts – we haven’t had any false positives – we can respond before it’s too late. That gives us real value.”

Sample of cloud services included: S3, EC2, Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudTrail for DDR.
